The Dementia Interpreter community edition video online course is exclusive to ProTrainings.
Dementia is a word that everyone knows, and for most of us, this word is feared. As with many things, we believe this is due to the lack of knowledge and understanding of dementia and this means that most people are just not prepared for it. You can help change this lack of knowledge and help shape the future of dementia care.
Throughout this video online course, you will complete multiple modules on various topics including definitions, communication, changes that can be made, body language, and more. There are also experiential training modules and finally a summary and conclusion that will make you understand that completing the course is just the start of your journey.
We want you to see what it is like to experience the difficulties people with dementia have. We take away the ability to speak, see, hear, and use body language to force people to find new ways of communicating, just like those with dementia must. It is not easy but the first-hand experience of feeling the same isolation, frustration, and anxiety as those that have dementia is key to understanding that communication is at the very heart of dementia care.
Completing the course means that you will become a registered Dementia Interpreter Level 1. You get access to the Dementia Interpreters forum where you create your profile to start your journey on helping translate the Language of Dementia. Over the next 12 months or so you will be provided with additional learning resources and complete the stages to move from Level 1 to Level 5. The higher up the levels you go the more opportunities you get to take part in research papers, product testing, and more. You can, and are encouraged to, get involved in multiple questions that have been asked. Where you offer a translation that is accepted as a definition you will be published in the Dementia Dictionary and given the recognition of helping others to understand the Language of Dementia and re-connect with their loved ones who have dementia.
Every Dementia Interpreter has the experience to help translate the Language of Dementia regardless of their position within the care industry. Therefore, the dictionary will continually develop through the thorough conversations of the entire Dementia Interpreter network, not just one person’s opinion or viewpoint. The accurate and approved definitions will be provided to the rest of the world for free.
"The course was brilliant, the experiential videos that were on there were brilliant, the gentleman taking the class actually taught me my train the trainer from yourselves a couple of years ago. All the modules really drill down into what staff should be aware of.
Also, the two lady’s in the videos have also come to our head office and delivered training as well from time to time. They were brilliant. The whole thing was brilliant. Truly made me think, and the way what happened in the exercise was talked through afterwards in great relevant detail."
